As a region, Latin America and the Caribbean has been the largest recipient of global investment in mining exploration since 1994. Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela have the largest reserve of oil and natural gas in Latin America. Historically, despite its wealth in natural resources, Latin America and the Caribbean have struggled to convert the exploitation and marketing of primary products into long-term economic development.

The Amazon, also called Amazonia in Spanish, is a vast region of the central and northern part of South America comprising the rainforest of the Amazon basin. The adjacent region of the Guianas also has rainforests and is often considered part of the Amazon. The Amazon is known for being one of the most biodiverse ecoregions in the world. 

Latin American music is originated in Central, South America and the Spanish-speaking nations in the Caribbean. Latin American music has roots from varios indigenous ancestors, African rhythms and the influence of European settlers.
