Toronto. The Embassy of Venezuela in Canada and the University of Toronto promoted the roundtable “Venezuela, Land of Peace” with graduate students to explain the reality of the country in light of the recent events that have occurred in the designation of Venezuela as a "threat” to the security of the United States.
In a friendly meeting with the best students at PhD and Masters levels in the area of political science and international studies, the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Canada, Wilmer Barrientos, was the keynote speaker for the discussion of ideas on the political process led by Venezuela on the rescue and vindication by the Bolivarian Revolution of Latin America’s historical legacy.
The Top Venezuelan diplomat in Canada, pointed out that with the arrival to the presidency of the Eternal Commander Hugo Chavez, life and rights of the peoples of Latin America were dignified and that will go down in the history of the XX and XXI century. The first clue that made us understand that Venezuela would not be the same as before, with the arrival of Chavez, was the adoption of a National Constitution, our highest code of justice, which contemplates the respect and guarantee of the human rights for all Venezuelan citizens regardless of their color, gender or socioeconomic status.
Ambassador noted, in truth unbelieving, and at same times very unpleasant as being an attack on one’s intelligence, that those who now claim to stand as defenders of human rights in our country and beyond our borders, are the same that applied the infamous Vagrancy and Crooks Act, that disappeared hundreds of thousands of students and popular leaders who fought for better conditions, demanding changes in government policies. The response they got was of treacherous murder, torture and physical disappearance. It took 39 long years for the reappearance of the body of student Noel Rodriguez, with obvious signs of torture that time could not erase from his remains; disappearance, torture and death by the "regime" of the day (COPEI) in 1973.
"Who wants to talk about violation of human rights? Those who yesterday and today believe that they have carte blanche to trample on the dignity of the people, because they are associated with monarchists and imperialist governments, who’s true intention is to take over our natural resources such as oil, water, iron, gold, thorium , coltan, among many other riches they want for themselves. However they found the people of Bolivar and Chavez, ready to defend with words and action our beautiful revolutionary process, legacy President Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías left us" said Ambassador Barrientos.
Moreover, students participating at the meeting reaffirmed that the commitment for human rights in the South American country was clearly visible with the implementation of social missions. In this regard, they asked the Ambassador to expand on the subject of human rights, because they acknowledged that print media devotes systematic spaces to undertake a clear manipulative smear campaign.
In this regard, Ambassador Barrientos noted that "there is no government in the world like the Bolivarian one, with progress on human rights; Not only because we talk about them, it is because we have created over 48 social missions in such diverse areas as health, housing, education, work, sports, culture, nutrition and many others, which have been worthy of international recognition; but we vehemently have demanded for the respect of human rights anywhere in the world without any hesitation on the implications of these observations ".
"Those who proclaim human rights, such as the United States, Israel and the European Union, mainly for its citizens when they are attacked, we have said that these same rights apply for Haitians, Palestinians, Ethiopians, Venezuelans, Cubans, migrants, refugees, prisoners of war or the unprotected anywhere in the world. The Bolivarian Revolution has unreservedly condemned the illegal wars in Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Afghanistan; if life is sacred, it is sacred for everyone in any corner of the world. "
