Caracas, May 1, 2015 (Telesur). The president called on Venezuelan workers to participate in shaping economic policies now that they enjoyed new institutions that represent them. 

During a speech concluding International Workers’ Day celebrations in Caracas on Friday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro stated that “now was time for workers to lead the economic policy of the country.”

April 30, 2015.- The Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations, Rafael Ramirez, addressed on Thursday morning  the plenary of the Ninth Conference of the Commissioned Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, convened every five years since its entry into force in 1970. Senior government officials and diplomats from 187 countries are gathered in New York from April 27 to May 22, with a view to reach a substantive agreement on nuclear disarmament.

Venezuelans are celebrating a decade and a half of progress for workers. Venezuelans rallied Friday to commemorate the achievements made for workers under the Bolivarian revolution. “There is so much we have achieved,” said Milagros Garcia, a worker who joined the May 1 rally in Caracas.

“I'm here to celebrate what we've done with hard work and dedication,” Garcia stated. Garcia was one of thousands of ordinary Venezuelans whoturned out early Friday morning to join the march, which flooded the streets of Caracas with an air of celebration. Many of the city's main plazas were packed with government supporters wearing red shirts, and waving Venezuelan flags. President Nicolas Maduro is expected to address the rally in the afternoon, after spending the morning commemorating May Day in Havana, Cuba.

Padilla Mendoza argued to the courts that he would not get a fair trial in Venezuela, an argument Colombia’s Supreme Court rejected. Colombian courts approved the extradition of Leiver Padilla Mendoza, the alleged murderer of Venezuelan socialist lawmaker Robert Serra, to Venezuela.

The Supreme Court of Colombia upheld the extradition from Padilla Mendoza, also known as ‘El Colombia,’ who has been accused of having organized the Serra’s assassination on Oct. 1. According to the Venezuelan state channel Venezolana de Television, the extradition will now be sent to Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos for approval. ​

A UN report said governments have pursued aggressive policies of wealth redistribution have seen the greatest decrease in inequality. A book published Tuesday by the U.N. Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) studying the relationship between inequality and taxation policies revealed that government intervention has succeeded in substantially reducing inequality.

This Friday the Vice President of the Republic, Jorge Arreaza, while participating in the Asia-Africa Conference held in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, said that "it is not about being aligned with a global power and its sphere of influence, the challenge today is much larger, more diffused, it is about not aligning with injustice, fighting wars, disrespect to public international law, fight against neocolonialism in any form."

Arreaza made a call to "align ourselves with justice and equality."

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, on behalf of the Government and the people of Venezuela expresses its deep regret for the tragedy facing the people of Nepal and sends its sympathy to the families of the thousands of victims of the earthquake occurred on Saturday in the country.

Medical workers will carry out house to house visits in the poorest communities and indigenous areas with difficult access. Venezuela kicked off a campaign Sunday to vaccinate 3.8 million residents by May 31.
